ProfitKey has developed Rapid Response Manufacturing (RRM) tool to provide an integrated ERP and MES solution for small to mid-size manufacturers. Rapid Response Manufacturing incorporates an accounting solution with advanced MES functionality, providing a solution that can manage all aspects of the manufacturing process from order placement to invoicing. The accounting module is integrated with the system, providing financial reporting, customized G/L report writer and more. The General Ledger allows users to view information from multiple accounting periods at a time and supports foreign currency conversions.
As employees labor on the shop floor, the solution collects data and automatically accounts for any breaks or lunches taken, so that employees do not need to clock in or clock out excessively. The barcode reader can scan employee IDs and pertinent order IDs or operation numbers reducing data entry. Drag-and-drop functionality allows managers and business owners to monitor orders and move specific jobs between different stations. Support is provided via phone and online ticket.

Profit Key handles everything from the time an order is placed, made, shipped, invoiced and paid. No need for other software including time keeping and costing.

The ProfitKey software covers every essential aspect of our business from quoting to getting the product out the door on time. The staff always responds promptly to any need we have and they are genuinely invested in helping us in any way possible. It is customer service the way it was meant to be. That aspect is important to any business but critical to small businesses. There are a lot of aspects to love about this software. Having a demo database that we can update at any moment to duplicate our live database is an excellent tool when exploring how some changes might affect operations without taking any risks in the live database. I am able to attach work instructions, pictures, and videos directly to an operation for clarification purposes - an awesome tool in ISO risk management. No more white boards or hot lists, the scheduler can be changed and updated so the people have up-to-the moment information on which jobs should run next from their MES components. ProfitKey's off-site backup service, in addition to my own backup practices, gives me peace of mind knowing we have knowledgeable people protecting our data. And perhaps as important as any other aspect, ProfitKey has an active user group that keeps the continual improvement ideas flowing.
If there was anything I could change, it would be to have a printed help book because I'm a book person. But their online help files are good.
There are other shop software products out there but there are none that are as integrated throughout the shop nor are there any that are more thorough or solid. Certainly the customer service can't be beaten. Information and peace of mind are priceless!
We have been able to get the information we need out of the software. It has most of the functions that we need. The design matches our style of manufacturing and the size of our company.
The modules are not named well. Its difficult to find the menu function you want to perform. The menu structure seems to be a carryover from when the software was written in Cobol. What they used to call a "workbench" of tools became a menu in the new software. The layout of the menus and modules should be rethought. For example, what is the difference between Manufacturing Operations and Manufacturing Planning. What should be on Accounting menus versus Inventory Management/Purchasing.

The biggest benefit this software give us is the control of product flow. We handle thousands of custom parts through hundreds of work centers and Profit Key gives us the ability to schedule the product, knowledge of performance, and the ability to change routings or schedules as needed.
The flexibility it gives the user to incorporate the software in with existing critical systems. It is also complex enough to cover almost any type of system but simple enough that the learning curve is very reasonable.
The import export method is antiquated. Granted the software is not geared to larger volume order companies and is great for small volume complex orders. But for large volume simple orders where manual entry is not a viable option, the flat file import process is clumsy. Profit Key has been very helpful and agreeable in working with us on a couple of customs programs to offset some of these difficulties until a new interface can be deployed.
